I-65 runs diagonally from Louisville through Indianapolis to Gary and the Chicago approaches. I-70 crosses east to west through Terre Haute, downtown Indianapolis and Richmond. I-69 heads northeast from Indianapolis to Fort Wayne and on toward Michigan. The Indiana Toll Road, I-80 and I-90, runs the north edge past South Bend and Elkhart, and I-465 loops Indianapolis where all of it meets.
Northern Indiana catches lake-effect snow off Lake Michigan. The Toll Road and the I-94 corridor near Gary and South Bend can white out while Indianapolis stays dry. Summer means work zones that move week to week, and INDOT announces every one by route and mile marker. In winter INDOT also publishes where its plows are, and a truck on the map is a position, not proof the road is plowed.
Over 25 daily snapshots from September 1 to 25, 2026, MileCheck's archive of the INDOT TrafficWise feed held 672 unique reports, including 238 closure reports, 6 crash reports and 415 work-zone reports. The routes with the most reports were I-65, I-70 and I-69. Counts reflect what the feed publishes, so a state whose DOT posts only closures shows only closures. Read the September Highway Report.
The map above shows every full closure INDOT TrafficWise is publishing as a red marker, crashes in orange, and weather and hazard alerts in blue and purple. Closures the DOT has posted for a future date are listed as scheduled, and ramp and lane closures sit under the toggle so the list stays readable. It reloads every five minutes. If the feed cannot be reached the page says so instead of showing an empty map. For the official list, open INDOT TrafficWise.
