Stevens is higher and snowier than Snoqualmie, and US-2 over the summit closes regularly through the winter for avalanche control and heavy snowfall, sometimes for extended windows when the avalanche danger is high above the highway. Check the cameras before you leave. Conditions here turn quickly.
The Stevens Pass ski resort sits right at the summit, so winter weekends stack recreational traffic on top of freight and commuters.
