I-75 is the whole-state road, Ohio line, Detroit, Flint, Grayling, the Mackinac Bridge, Sault Ste. Marie, about 395 miles. I-94 crosses the bottom of the state from the Indiana line through Kalamazoo, Ann Arbor and Detroit toward Port Huron. I-96 links Detroit and Grand Rapids, and US-131 runs north to south up the west side. M-28 is the Upper Peninsula's main east-west road, and US-2 runs the UP's southern shore.
In winter, lake-effect snow off Superior and Michigan buries the Upper Peninsula and the northern Lower Peninsula. M-28 and US-2 can go from clear to whiteout inside a few miles, and closures are announced by route and milepost. The Mackinac Bridge, around mile marker 339 on I-75, posts high-wind restrictions and escorts. In fall, deer season brings dawn and dusk collisions statewide.
Over 25 daily snapshots from September 1 to 25, 2026, MileCheck's archive of the Mi Drive feed held 942 unique reports, including 413 closure reports, 26 crash reports and 484 work-zone reports. The routes with the most reports were I-94, I-96 and I-75. Counts reflect what the feed publishes, so a state whose DOT posts only closures shows only closures. Read the September Highway Report.
The map above shows every full closure Mi Drive is publishing as a red marker, crashes in orange, and weather and hazard alerts in blue and purple. Closures the DOT has posted for a future date are listed as scheduled, and ramp and lane closures sit under the toggle so the list stays readable. It reloads every five minutes.
