The West Virginia Turnpike, I-77 and I-64, climbs about 88 miles of grades and curves between Princeton and Charleston, runaway-truck-ramp country. I-79 runs north from Charleston toward Morgantown and Pennsylvania. I-64 crosses the state from the Virginia line through Charleston toward Huntington. I-68 and US-19, Corridor L past the New River Gorge, carry the northern and shortcut traffic.
West Virginia's mountains make their own weather. Fog banks settle into the hollows and across the Turnpike's high stretches with no warning, winter ice arrives early at elevation and lingers late, and heavy rain brings rockfall and slides onto the roadway. Closures and restrictions are announced by route and milepost. WV511's cameras are live video, and some streams go offline for stretches.
Over 25 daily snapshots from September 1 to 25, 2026, MileCheck's archive of the WV511 feed held 116 unique reports, including 116 work-zone reports.
