I-94 is the spine, the Minnesota line, Eau Claire, the Dells, Madison, Milwaukee, then south toward Chicago. I-90 enters at La Crosse and joins I-94 through the Dells before splitting off toward Beloit and Illinois. I-43 links Milwaukee and Green Bay along the lake side. US-51 and I-39 run up the middle toward Wausau, and US-2 and US-53 serve the far north and Superior.
Lake-effect and lake-enhanced snow hits I-43 and I-94 along Lake Michigan, and winter storms close I-90 and I-94 across the west when visibility goes. WisDOT posts closures and winter road conditions on 511WI by route. Deer season in fall brings dawn and dusk collisions statewide.
Over 25 daily snapshots from September 1 to 25, 2026, MileCheck's archive of the 511WI feed held 2,738 unique reports, including 412 closure reports, 135 crash reports and 2,185 work-zone reports.
