I-65 is the spine, about 366 miles from Mobile through Montgomery and Birmingham to the Tennessee line. I-20 crosses east to west through Birmingham between the Georgia and Mississippi lines. I-10 runs the Gulf Coast through Mobile. I-59 angles northeast from Birmingham toward Chattanooga, and I-22 links Birmingham to Memphis.
When a hurricane threatens Mobile Bay, evacuations move north on I-65, and ALDOT posts where traffic is heaviest and where lanes are adjusted by mile marker. The rest of the year the trouble is ordinary. Between Mobile and Montgomery I-65 is long, flat and rural, exits are far apart, and one crash can stack traffic for miles.
Over 25 daily snapshots from September 1 to 25, 2026, MileCheck's archive of the ALGO Traffic feed held 1,120 unique reports, including 31 closure reports, 209 crash reports and 263 work-zone reports. The routes with the most reports were I-65, I-20 and I-10. Counts reflect what the feed publishes, so a state whose DOT posts only closures shows only closures. Read the September Highway Report.
The map above shows every full closure ALGO Traffic is publishing as a red marker, crashes in orange, and weather and hazard alerts in blue and purple. Closures the DOT has posted for a future date are listed as scheduled, and ramp and lane closures sit under the toggle so the list stays readable. It reloads every five minutes.
