I-20 runs about 1,539 miles from an interchange with I-10 in far West Texas to I-95 in Florence, South Carolina, crossing six states — Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina — through Odessa, Shreveport, Jackson, Birmingham, and metro Atlanta.
West Texas brings long, service-free stretches with high wind; metro Atlanta, where I-20 crosses I-285 and the I-75/I-85 downtown connector, is chronic, heavy congestion. Across the Deep South — Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia — summer thunderstorms and the occasional tropical system remnant are the main risk, and winter ice storms, though rare, tend to hit harder here than up north because the roads aren't set up to treat them.
