How many EV chargers are in each state?
Last updated October 16, 2026 · U.S. Department of Energy station counts
The U.S. has 82,683 EV charging locations with 260,733 charging ports. 78,966 of those ports are DC fast chargers, the kind you use on a road trip.
What is the difference between Level 2 and fast charging?
- DC fast charging is for the highway. It adds about 100 to 200 or more miles of range in 30 minutes.
- Level 2 is the common charger at hotels, stores and workplaces. It adds about 25 miles of range per hour.
- Level 1 is a regular wall outlet. It adds about 5 miles of range per hour.
Those are the Department of Energy's estimates. Your car, the weather and how full the battery is change the numbers.
