Can my dispatch software show road closures?

Yes, if it reads a feed. State DOTs publish closures, but each in its own format. The MileCheck API returns them from every state in one format, so your dispatch software can show them next to each truck.

What the feed carries

Closures, crashes, construction, chain controls and road weather, as each state reports them. Records carry the road and location the source gives. Direction, times and mile markers can be missing, and an estimated mile marker is marked as an estimate.

How it plugs in

Your software asks /v1/alerts for a state, or for a box around a route, and gets JSON back. /v1/locate turns a truck's GPS position into its highway and mile marker, so a driver and a closure can be compared by mile.

Cost

A test key is instant, with no email. It runs 14 days at 100 calls a day. Business is $299 a month for 100,000 calls a day. More by quote. See API plans.

If you'd rather not build it

Ask your dispatch software vendor whether it reads a road closure feed. If you use Geotab, see MileCheck for Geotab.

Live state DOT feeds in one format

Closures, crashes, construction, chain controls, drawbridges and border waits, plus GPS to mile marker. The test key is instant, with no email.

Questions, answered

Does it include Canada?

Live alerts include British Columbia, Alberta and Manitoba. Mile markers include ten provinces and territories.

How fresh is it?

Most state feeds are cached for 5 minutes. Each record carries the DOT's own last-updated time.
