For store owners

What can I put on the TV in my convenience store for customers?

A convenience store TV can show more than news, a menu or a repeating promotion. If your location serves people traveling a highway, road information is another option to consider.

Drivers may be stopping for fuel, food or a break. Some are about to cross a mountain pass. Others are heading into a city where crashes or roadwork can affect the drive. A screen with reports for the highway outside gives them information they may want before leaving.

Use the screen for local road reports

MileCheck Corridor Board runs full screen in a web browser on a TV or streaming device. It shows reports from the state DOT for the nearby highway, including closures, crashes and roadwork. When the DOT gives a delay estimate, the board shows it. It also displays scheduled closures with their dates and live DOT cameras.

This is different from playing a general news channel. The information is specific to the highway outside your store. A customer can glance at the board to see what the DOT is reporting along that corridor.

It is not a weather forecast for every route, a trip planner or a guarantee that a road is safe. If the DOT has not reported a problem, that does not prove there is none. Drivers should still check current conditions and follow road signs before making travel decisions.

Keep room for your own store messages

You can add short lines of store information to the screen. A cafe might show a breakfast special. A truck stop might show "Showers available." A convenience store could list when its kitchen closes.

The road reports remain the main content. Your messages help customers see useful store details without turning the TV into an endless advertisement.

The board also has one sponsor slot along the bottom. MileCheck finds and manages the sponsor. The store receives an agreed share of sponsor payments. The store does not need to find advertisers or manage their payments.

There is no charge to the store for the board.

Can I use the TV I already have?

You need a TV or streaming device with a browser and a Wi-Fi connection. At milecheckapp.com/tv, enter your four-digit store code to open the full-screen board. You do not need to install a new digital signage system.

MileCheck provides a 24-hour test first. After that, stores that want to continue sign a board agreement, including the terms for sharing sponsor payments.

Boards exist today for I-84 in Oregon, I-17 in Arizona, and I-90 and I-5 in Washington. A store on another road should confirm coverage before planning to use one.

If you're deciding what to show on a screen near the coffee station, checkout or seating area, a highway report is one option worth testing.
