What km marker am I at in Canada?

How it works, province by province
- Quebec. Small green markers called repères kilométriques stand on the shoulder every 2 km on the autoroutes. Exits are numbered by kilometre too. Quebec guide
- Ontario. On the freeways the exit number is the kilometre count. Exit 369 on Highway 401 at Yonge Street in Toronto is 369 km from Windsor. Ontario guide
- Alberta. Exit numbers on the QEII and the city ring roads follow the kilometre count. Alberta guide
- British Columbia. Highway 1 through the Lower Mainland uses kilometre-based exit numbers. Elsewhere, a nearby junction or landmark can help describe your location. BC guide

What to tell 911 or a tow truck
Give the highway number and your direction of travel. Add the nearest km marker or exit number, and say whether you have passed it. If you cannot see a sign, describe a nearby landmark or your distance from the last town or junction, if you know it. Say when you are unsure. For 911, answer the call taker’s questions and stay on the line until they tell you to hang up.
