I-80 runs about 455 miles from the Wyoming line through North Platte, Kearney and Lincoln to Omaha, the Platte River road, including a straight stretch of roughly 70 miles. I-76 splits off toward Denver near the Colorado corner, and I-29 brushes the eastern edge at Omaha. US-83 runs north to south through North Platte, US-30 shadows I-80 up the valley, and NE-2 crosses the Sandhills from Grand Island toward Alliance.
Wind and blowing snow are the winter hazard on I-80 across the open Platte valley, and NDOT closes the interstate by mile range when visibility goes. Freezing rain glazes the eastern hills toward Omaha. In summer, thunderstorms with hail and high wind sweep the same corridor, and Nebraska 511 posts the damage by route and mile. NDOT publishes where its plows are in winter, and trucks with a camera send a photo from it.
