I-40 crosses the state from Fort Smith to West Memphis through Little Rock, about 285 miles of near-constant truck traffic. I-30 runs the Texas corner up through Texarkana and Hot Springs country to Little Rock. I-49 climbs the Ozark grades through Fayetteville and the northwest corner. I-55 hugs the Mississippi River in the east, and US-65 and US-67 feed the corners of the state.
Arkansas weather hits its highways from two directions. Spring and summer bring flash flooding, creeks that jump their banks and put water over the road with little warning, especially in the river valleys and the Ozark and Ouachita highlands. Winter brings ice storms that glaze the higher terrain while the lowlands stay wet. ARDOT posts both on IDrive Arkansas by route and mile.
