I-80 crosses about 400 miles of southern Wyoming, from Evanston through Rock Springs, Rawlins and Laramie to Cheyenne. I-25 runs north from Cheyenne through Casper toward Buffalo. I-90 cuts the northeast corner through Sheridan and Gillette. US-287 and US-26 carry travelers toward the Wind River country, Jackson and the Yellowstone gates.
Wyoming closures come in flavors. Wind restrictions for light trailers and high-profile vehicles, full closures when a ground blizzard takes the visibility, and rolling closures behind crashes, all described by mile range. The Elk Mountain stretch of I-80 between Laramie and Rawlins, around milepost 255, is the one truckers talk about. When the road shuts, traffic waits at Laramie and Rawlins until WYDOT reopens it.
Over 25 daily snapshots from September 1 to 25, 2026, MileCheck's archive of the WYDOT feed held 24 unique reports, including 5 closure reports and 6 crash reports. Closures the DOT has posted for a future date are listed as scheduled, and ramp and lane closures sit under the toggle so the list stays readable. It reloads every five minutes.
