I-95 is the spine, the Connecticut line, Warwick, downtown Providence, then Massachusetts, about 43 miles. I-295 loops west of Providence as the bypass, rejoining I-95 on both ends. US-1 runs the South County shore, the beach road to Narragansett, Charlestown and Westerly. RI-146 cuts northwest from Providence toward Worcester, and US-6 heads west into the hills.
Rhode Island's weather comes off the water. Nor'easters, coastal flooding on the low shore roads, and winter ice that hits the whole state at once because there is not much state to hit. I-95 through Providence carries the full weight of the Northeast corridor, and a stall at rush hour backs up fast. In summer the US-1 beach runs fill with shore traffic.
The map above shows every full closure RIDOT is publishing as a red marker, crashes in orange, and weather and hazard alerts in blue and purple. Closures the DOT has posted for a future date are listed as scheduled, and ramp and lane closures sit under the toggle so the list stays readable. It reloads every five minutes.
