I-94 crosses roughly 350 miles from the Montana line through Dickinson and Bismarck to Fargo. I-29 runs the Red River Valley north to south through Fargo and Grand Forks to the Canadian border. US-2 crosses the north of the state through Minot and Devils Lake, US-83 runs north to south through Bismarck and Minot, and US-85 serves the oil-patch country in the west.
Winter closes I-94 and I-29 when a ground blizzard takes the visibility. NDDOT posts no-travel advisories by county and closes interstate gates by mile range on NDRoads, and on the open prairie wind matters as much as snow. In spring, Red River flooding has closed I-29 and the roads around Fargo and Grand Forks. Between towns there is very little to point at, so the milepost is the reference everyone uses.
Over 25 daily snapshots from September 1 to 25, 2026, MileCheck's archive of the NDRoads feed held 73 unique reports, including 6 closure reports and 60 work-zone reports. The routes with the most reports were I-94, US-2 and I-29. Counts reflect what the feed publishes, so a state whose DOT posts only closures shows only closures. Read the September Highway Report.

Closures the DOT has posted for a future date are listed as scheduled, and ramp and lane closures sit under the toggle so the list stays readable. It reloads every five minutes.
