Santiam Pass carries US-20 over the Cascade Range at 4,817 ft. Here's what to watch, and when it bites.
Santiam Pass is one of Oregon's busiest Cascade crossings in winter. ODOT often requires chains or traction tires at the summit during storms, and crashes on the grades on either side can close the highway for hours. OR-22 from Salem joins US-20 at Santiam Junction, west of the summit.
Hoodoo's turnoff is right at the summit, so ski traffic merges with freight there on winter weekends.
The live map above shows closures and incidents on US-20 near the summit, from ODOT. See every camera on the Oregon cameras page.
ODOT sets chain requirements at the summit and posts them on signs and TripCheck. They change quickly in a storm.
The summit is 4,817 feet on US-20. Compare Willamette Pass on OR-58 to the south.
