Rogers Pass is the Trans-Canada's crossing of the Selkirks, inside a national park, under heavy avalanche terrain. Here is what applies.

Avalanche control closures

Parks Canada runs avalanche control on the pass in winter, using artillery fired by the Canadian Armed Forces. The highway closes while it happens, often for a few hours. DriveBC posts the closure times. Snowsheds cover the worst slide paths.

Winter tires or chains

BC requires winter tires (M+S or the mountain snowflake) or chains on Highway 1 through the pass from October 1. Signs at Revelstoke and Golden show the dates in force.

No services at the top

There is a long stretch with few services between Revelstoke and Golden. Fill up before you start the climb. Cell coverage is limited in the park.
