The Forest Service lists closures between Silver Fir Campground at milepost 48 and Picture Lake at milepost 54 on September 30, October 1, October 5 and October 6. Hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Traffic cannot pass in either direction during that work. See the winter-preparation alert.
The Mount Baker Highway climbs from Bellingham to Artist Point at 5,140 feet. The final 2.7 miles above the ski area close for winter. Snow removal determines the opening date. In 2026, WSDOT reopened that section on June 10.
