The road to Hurricane Ridge

Hurricane Ridge Road climbs from Port Angeles into Olympic National Park. US 101 is the through-road around the north side of the peninsula. The agencies that run each road post different data.

Hurricane Ridge Road

Hurricane Ridge Road runs 17 miles from Port Angeles to the ridge at 5,242 feet. NPS posts winter opening days and chain requirements. Every vehicle must carry tire chains above Heart O' the Hills from November 1 through April 1, including four-wheel drive.

The ridge facilities

The Hurricane Ridge Day Lodge burned in May 2023. The park now uses temporary trailers for restrooms and a visitor contact station. The webcam shows the ridge and parking lot, but not the 17 miles of road below it.

US 101 around the peninsula

US 101 is the road around the Olympic Peninsula. WSDOT cameras near Port Angeles and Sequim show the approach roads outside the park. The map is limited to the feeds that return inside the radius.

Are chains required on Hurricane Ridge Road?

Yes. The National Park Service requires every vehicle to carry tire chains above Heart O' the Hills from November 1 through April 1, including four-wheel-drive vehicles.
